chrono trigger sunken desert A Forest Grows
in the Desert

chrono trigger sunken desertBack in 12,000 BC, either in Zeal's Palace, or in the last village after the crash of the Ocean palace, you might have come across a lady with a sapling tree. She claims to have gotten it from one of the Guru's to help replenish the planet of life. When you speak to her, she will ask you whether or not she should plant it. Well duh, tell her yes she should.
Meanwhile, since you did this, back in 600 AD, Fiona's husband has now come home. Speak to her, and you will find that she has a Mystic Seedling that could forest the entire desert. But there is a little bit of a problem.
It would seem that the entire desert has been overrun by terrible monsters a plenty. She knows they are weak to water, but there is just too many of them to fight off.
Well, head outside, and to the southwest of her home, you will see the problem. A whirlpool has appeared in the sand. Head to it, and enter the Sunken Desert.

chrono trigger sunken desertchrono trigger sunken desertInside you will see a area full of swirling sands. You need to make your way across these sand-like roadways. There are a bunch of chests scattered all over the room, so make your way around collecting them. You will only encounter two types of enemies here: Hexapod, and Mohavors. Each of these are weak to both Shadow and Water. Magus is a huge help with his Ice 2, as well as Dark Matter if you have it. They will not be too much trouble for you to be sure.
Once you have collected all of the chests and defeated the enemies, head to the south end of the room for the exit. This will take you to the next area. In here, you will find the culprit of the whole issue. As you walk onto the sand, a ugly looking thing will pop up from the sand. This is the Retinite. You can easily avoid him, while you wander the room collecting the chests here. When you have completed everything, run into the strange thing to get the boss to appear.

Boss Fight: Retinite
chrono trigger sunken desert
Ok, the first thing to know about this guy is he is FAST! Healing will have to be done every round or so, if you are not in good levels. Retinite is very weak to Water spells, and it also lowers his Defense every time one is cast on him. Focus your attacks on the top half first. Have Magus begin by casting Ice 2, before anyone else goes. Then have Ayla use Rock Throw on the top half, while Robo nails it with Uzzie Punch. Then do it again, having Magus go first in each round.

Once you have defeated the upper half, go after the bottom. This time though, you will have to change Ayla's attack. If she has Triple Tech, use it, though it drains MP pretty quickly. If not just have her hit normally. Have Magus and Robo continue their onslaught just as in the beginning. When the Bottom finally falls, so will the Core. If you wish, you can charm a Speed Tab from the core.

with the nasty bugger gone, the party will say that Fiona will be able to plant her tree, and let it grow. Head back out to the map, and see Fiona again.
*NOTE* After the fight with the Retinite, be sure to save either after you get out of the Sunken Desert, or when you return to 1000 AD. Something very important is going to happen, and once the events begin, there is no way to save. Be sure to save!

can't handle. The party will then head to a campsite, where Robo discusses his feelings about the time he has spent waiting for them to come back. He feels the time gates are not the work of Lavos, but someone else. Someone wants them to see what they have seen, and try to fix the mistakes of the past. Marle asks Lucca whether or not there is anything she would change. Lucca is kind of reserved on an answer, and it is left alone.

In the night, Lucca will wake up. Head over to the right, where a time gate is. This is the very reason you wanted to save before entering the shrine. Open the red gate, and enter.
Lucca emerges inside her room, where she wonders if she has been taken to "THAT TIME". Read the note on the table, explaining how much she hates science. But she is a scientist right? Well, head down the stairs. Now do not go into the room to the south...DO NOT! Instead head to the northern room. Inside the kitchen, read a note from Lucca's father, explaining the password for the machine he is working on. It is LARA.

Now enter the room to the south of the stairs. Inside you will see a very young Lucca, and her mother. Her mother will walk over to the machine complaining of how dirty it is. Suddenly her dress will get caught in it! Lucca can't get her out, and cannot shut it off. It is up to you. Head to the bottom right corner where it will prompt you to enter the password. Just so you do not get confused, the password entry spot is right next to the white covered machine. Now enter the password you learned in Taban's note. (It is L1 R1 . If you do it in time, Lara will be saved, and history will be changed! Lucca's mom will no longer be paralyzed! chrono trigger sunken desert
Lucca will then return to her room, where a new note will be on the floor, read it, and enter the gate again. Robo is waiting for his friend outside. After some dialogue, Robo will give her a gift, the Green Dream. And everything is beautiful. Just look below at the magnificent forest you just helped create. This is definitely a sign that you can truly make the world a better place! chrono trigger sunken desert
